HILLSBORO, Ore – Over the past two weeks, Shawn Lindsay’s campaign for state representative received big boosts as he picked up the support of the Independent Party of Oregon and a major agriculture group.
After a month of voting, the Independent Party of Oregon officially gave Lindsay their nomination for this fall’s General Election. Under Oregon’s new fusion-voting, Lindsay will have the nomination of both the Republican and Independent parties when ballots are mailed in October.
“I really appreciate the support of the Independent Party of Oregon and thank local voters for their confidence and support,” Lindsay said. “As I visit with people in our community, they’ve made it clear that they want people who are comfortable working with people outside their political party to get results on everything from job creation to schools and education. That’s the approach I’m committed to as state representative.”
Lindsay also received the backing of Ag-PAC, a coalition of 15 of Oregon’s leading agriculture groups. “Oregon’s agriculture sector is one of the many that need our support as we work to strengthen our economy and create jobs,” Lindsay said. “I worked on farms bucking hay while growing up and it was that hard work that gave me the work ethic I have today. We’ve got to do more to promote our local agriculture products and we have to protect their contribution to our local economy.”
Lindsay has already picked up support from several key local leaders including Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey; Hillsboro School District Chair Carolyn Ortman; Andy Duyck, Chair-elect of the Washington County Board of Commissioners; Former Hillsboro Police Chief Lila Ashenbrenner; and, Washington County Sheriff Rob Gordon.
The Greater Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Farm Bureau and several other trade associations have also endorsed Lindsay.
Lindsay, 37, is an attorney with the Lane Powell law firm in Portland where he specializes in business and intellectual property work. A fourth generation Oregonian, Lindsay and his wife live in Hillsboro with their three daughters. He is running for the seat being vacated by state Representative David Edwards (D-Hillsboro). Lindsay has served on the Hillsboro School District Curriculum Committee and as a member of the Oregon State Bar House of Delegates. On a pro bono basis, he serves as general counsel to Special Olympics Oregon.
